Gilmore Garms

Of recent, autumn style inspiration has become synonymous with Gilmore Girls, the cozy and light-hearted – albeit fairly tongue-in-cheek – sitcom drama about single mum Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory.

The fictional town in which Gilmore Girls is set, “Stars Hollow”, looks especially beautiful in episodes which occur during autumn, and the costume design is no exception. If you love a good jumper or cardigan, there’s no shortage of them to see on screen.

The show first aired in 2000 and thus is rife with the kind of fashion that we’re seeing become trendy again now: think low-rise bootcut jeans, brown leather blazers, graphic baby tees and a scarf for every outfit.

Despite always being enjoyed for their entertainment, shows such as Gilmore Girls, Friends, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have resurged in popularity recently due to the current 2000’s style obsession, and now we’re looking to them for outfit inspiration.

Google searches for outfits from the shows have increased, with people wanting to know where to buy this type of fashion and emulate it for themselves. These shows and films are doing the same thing to low-rise jeans that Stranger Things did to mom jeans, and at this point we probably have whiplash. However, if you’re looking for a comfort show to watch this autumn and maybe gain some style inspiration whilst you’re at it, Gilmore Girls is a good start.

Whilst brands like Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie and Fitch offer some similar colourful statement pieces and basics reminiscent of those worn on the show, they will never have the same vintage and unique edge to many of the Gilmore Girls characters’ outfits we so covet.. Local charity shops and Vinted, whilst requiring a bit more digging, will be much more rewarding (and cheap!) if you’re looking to find pieces in this style.
